Hastings Septic Co exists for one reason: a big slice of the Port Macquarie-Hastings region lives beyond the sewer network, and those properties all depend on septic tanks and aerated wastewater systems that need regular, properly licensed servicing. This site exists to make the first step of that, finding someone to do it, less of a chore.
Why Septic Servicing Matters Here
Drive twenty minutes out of Port Macquarie in any direction and you’re in septic country. Acreage around Wauchope and King Creek, hobby farms at Beechwood and Pembrooke, the villages of Kendall, Kew and Comboyne, older homes through the Camden Haven and holiday rentals around Lake Cathie: thousands of properties across the LGA manage their own wastewater onsite.
These systems are quiet workhorses, but they’re not maintenance-free. Conventional tanks typically need pumping out every 3-5 years, aerated systems need regular scheduled servicing, and in NSW onsite sewage systems generally require council approval to operate (requirements vary, so it’s always worth checking your obligations with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council; our NSW septic rules guide is a plain-English starting point). Skip the maintenance and you end up with soggy trenches, smells, backups, and a much bigger bill. The wet seasons here don’t help: saturated ground puts extra stress on absorption trenches, though conditions vary a lot from property to property.
Who Runs This Site
Hastings Septic Co is operated by Mark A Jeanes, a sole trader, ABN 11 229 027 126. Invoices issue as “Mark A Jeanes trading as Hastings Septic Co”. There is one person behind this site, and that is deliberately not hidden.
What Mark does: builds and maintains the site, researches and writes the guides, reads every enquiry that comes in, and works out which independent operator an enquiry should go to.
What Mark does not do: the work. He does not pump tanks, service aerated systems, quote jobs, set prices, hold a liquid-waste licence or a plumbing licence, or contract with you. Septic and wastewater work in NSW is licensed work, and it belongs to the operator who holds those licences.
That split is the whole structure: we handle the enquiry; independent local professionals do the work. Pump-outs, cleaning, AWTS servicing, inspections and grease trap work are performed by appropriately licensed local liquid-waste operators, and any repair or plumbing work is work for a licensed plumber. Waste transport is licensed work in NSW: it must be carted by licensed operators and disposed of at approved facilities.
It keeps the two jobs honest. The enquiry is handled by a named person you can hold to account, and the work is quoted and contracted by the operator who actually does it; they invoice you, and you are not contracting with Hastings Septic Co.
What Happens To Your Enquiry
- It is screened and stored. Every enquiry is checked for spam and stored securely.
- It is read personally. Mark reads it. It is not blasted out to a list of tradespeople.
- It may be referred. Where an independent operator is confirmed for your area, your details may be passed to them so they can quote you. Where licensing is required, their identity and licence details are provided before you accept a quotation or enter a contract.
- They deal with you directly. The operator quotes you, contracts with you and invoices you. You pay Hastings Septic Co nothing.
Our Commitment
- Licensing is not optional. Waste transport licensing, plumbing licensing and lawful disposal are legal requirements in NSW, not a service level.
- Straight communication. Indicative pricing labelled as such, a formal quote from the operator before work starts, and honest advice. If your tank doesn’t need pumping yet, we’d rather tell you that and see you in two years.
- Local focus. We only cover the Port Macquarie-Hastings area, from the coast to Wauchope and the hinterland. That’s deliberate: local operators, local knowledge, sensible travel times.
- No fee to you. Homeowners pay Hastings Septic Co nothing: not for the enquiry, not for the referral, not at any point.
